Motor sport fans will get a chance to experience even more action from this year’s Shannons Nationals, with an extended two-day stream and live, free-to-air coverage on SBS.
As part of the seven round series, SBS will provide live coverage on both Saturday and Sunday, with the free-to-air, HD coverage to primarily focus on TCR, with every race live.
CAMS and the Australian Racing Group, commercial rights holders of TCR Australia and S5000, worked closely to secure the deal ahead of the first round in May.
A separate post-produced package featuring other categories will also be prepared, with more details to be released soon.
CAMS can also confirm all the action on both Saturday and Sunday will be live streamed on speedseries.com.au, cams.com.au and various social media channels, doubling the offering of 2018.
Shannons Nationals Director Michael Smith said motor sport fans would get a chance to see even more racing this year.
“There is a real buzz about the Shannons this year, with new and existing categories set for a massive year on our extended seven round calendar,” Smith said.
“The two day stream will provide even more motor sport content for fans around Australia and the world.
“Together with ARG, we are also delighted to be able to confirm live, free-to-air coverage for TCR Australia on SBS to complement our existing live stream as part of this year’s Shannons Nationals.
“There is already so much anticipation ahead of this year and we are thrilled to be able to extend the live coverage to free-to-air with a broadcast partner already well acquainted with the Shannons Nationals in SBS.”
ARG Director Matt Braid said the free-to-air coverage of TCR would be comprehensive.
“The Australian Racing Group, in conjunction with CAMS, is very pleased to announce our partnership with SBS to broadcast the 2019 TCR Australia Series,” Braid said.
“Every TCR race in each of the seven Shannons Nationals rounds will be shown live and in high definition on SBS, making it the best free to air coverage of any motor sport category in Australia.
“We have worked hard to confirm the best possible coverage for the inaugural TCR Australia Series for our competitors, and particularly for Australian motor sport fans, and we are extremely pleased to be partnering with SBS who have a great heritage in broadcasting high quality, local and international motor sport.”
SBS Head of Sport Ken Shipp said the free-to-air broadcaster was excited to be showcasing TCR.
“It’s great news that live motor sport is returning to our screens at SBS,” Ken Shipp said.
“I have no doubt the upcoming season will bring with it some exciting wheel-to-wheel moments and superb on-track entertainment which will be available free-to-air to all Australians.”
Once again, Shannons continues as the naming rights partner of the series – the 13th successful season of the partnership between CAMS and Shannons.
CAMS can also confirm the Morris Finance Drivers’ Club will return in 2019, after a successful debut last year, providing a perfect setting for drivers and guests to network at circuits around Australia.
Round one of the Shannons Nationals takes place on 17-19 May at Sydney Motorsport Park. The full calendar can be viewed at www.speedseries.com.au.
