SRO Motorsports Australia chose to retain the SpeedSeries name because of its significance and familiarity within the Australian motorsport community. With almost two decades of history, retaining the name honours the many iterations of the series, while also signalling SRO’s commitment to building on the established reputation using its global experience.
While the Shannons SpeedSeries retains its familiar name and a number of aspects from previous years, SRO Motorsports Australia’s global status will allow for a refreshed makeover to reflect the new chapter of its journey – with a focus on GT racing.
While previous iterations of the SpeedSeries saw every category hold equal status, the new Shannons SpeedSeries will be headlined by GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS. Other categories competing at events will play a supporting role to the series.
Details about how to watch the Shannons SpeedSeries will be announced in the coming weeks, including broadcast and streaming options. Fans can expect accessible coverage that allows them to experience the action either live at events or from the comfort of their homes.
Information on ticketing will be released in the coming weeks – with tickets for the opening round in Phillip Island on sale on Friday 7 February.
The Shannons SpeedSeries will be made up of five Australian events and one New Zealand Round. The Australian rounds include circuits Phillip Island, Sydney Motorsport Park, Queensland Raceway, Sandown Raceway and Shell V-Power Motorsport Park. GT World Challenge Australia and GT4 Australia will be the only Australian categories to feature at the final Shannons SpeedSeries round in New Zealand.
Motorsport Australia will remain involved with the Shannons SpeedSeries as part of a joint venture with SRO Motorsports Australia. SRO Motorsports Australia will take on the major role of event promoter, Motorsport Australia will focus on it’s core responsibilities as the governing body of motorsport in Australia.
In accordance with the new joint venture between SRO Motorsports Australia and Motorsport Australia, both parties will collaborate to deliver the new look SpeedSeries. Motorsport Australia is committed to ensuring there is an adequate transfer of skills and knowledge to the promote and deliver the best result as SRO Motorsports Australia looks to build on the legacy of the Shannons SpeedSeries.
There will be no change in regard to event entry for the Shannons SpeedSeries. Competitors across participating support categories can enter via their previous channels.
There will be no changes to previous methods of obtaining tickets. People interested in attending the Shannons SpeedSeries in 2025 can purchase tickets via the Shannons SRO SpeedSeries website.
There will be no changes from the previous accreditation process. Any person wanting to attend a Shannons SpeedSeries event in an official capacity will have to apply via the Motorsport Australia accreditation system.
