NSW Production Cars relish National impact

The Australian Production Cars will welcome an impressive 21 entrants from the state of NSW into their packed out first round at Sandown Raceway.

Taking up just under half the APC’s grid, the state racers will compete in two 60-minute races on Saturday with the option of taking part in the Sunday’s race.

With a total of 48 entrants from across Australia expected to line up for series as part of the Shannons Nationals, NSW Production Cars President Rob Coulthard was excited with the event’s opportunities.

“I think it is brilliant for the state racers to have the chance to race as part of a national-level event at an iconic track such as Sandown Raceway and they are sure to put on a fantastic show for all who watch,” Coulthard said.

“The NSW Production Cars has a very intense level of competition, with large grids and lots of battles all the way throughout the class structures.

“It is very tight and there is no clear or predictable winner on any particular day in any class, it is probably currently the most competitive that I have seen it.”

While the APC is run on a national scale with a high standard of competition, Coulthard was confident that the NSW state drivers were not there just to make up the numbers.

“With more than 20 racers from NSW Production Cars getting amongst it at Sandown, there will be plenty of competition and great battles,” Coulthard added.

“I am expecting it to be a good mix and there will be plenty of our guys giving the national racers a run for their money across the classes.

“It will be a good weekend I think and great for our sport and for production car racing in particular – any time you can have almost 50 cars on any track in any state is a great thing.”

The Australian Production Cars series kick off their 2018 season during the Shannons Nationals at Sandown Raceway on 13 – 15 May.
