The Australian Production Car Series will open their 2018 season with an over-subscribed field at next month’s Shannons Nationals.
It’s an incredible breakthrough for the category, with the entry list of cars to be extended from 46 to 48 total entries, which has been given the green light by CAMS.

The APCS returns to the iconic Sandown Raceway after a few years absence and Category Manager Iain Sherrin was thrilled to exceed entry list targets.
“How exciting is it that we are heading into our first round of the 2018 season and we are literally sold out, with our entry list filled even before early bird entries closed last week,” Sherrin said.
“We have had a reserve list in place as well, which came in handy when damage from the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour unfortunately saw a couple of our entrants withdraw.
“Now, we head to the iconic Sandown Raceway with a over-subscribed field of 48 racers and we are thankful to CAMS who are allowing us special permission to run the two extra cars on our grid.”
The good news keeps rolling in for the APC series with motor sport legend John Bowe signed on to compete at Sandown. The Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame inductee will partner Tony Virag in the Royalty Wraps and Graphics Holden HSV VF GTS.
The former Supercars Champion made more than 1000 starts in his career, including 200 wins and eight national championships in four categories.
Current CAMS Australian GT Championship leader Tony D’Alberto has also signed on for the race, teaming up with Grant Denyer in the Simply Sport Cars Lotus Exige 350 Sport.
The series welcomes the NSW Production Cars to Saturday’s bumper field, with each state entrant been given the option to compete on Sunday.
“It is sure going to be busy out there, and it is going to be a great weekend,” NSW Production Cars President Rob Coulthard said.
“I think this is a great concept – it gives the NSW state racers some experience racing in a national event and also allows them the exposure that comes along with that for their sponsors.
“For these reasons and also because it gives us the chance to race at an iconic track like Sandown, the concept has had a really good take-up within our ranks.
“Everyone is really looking forward to it; we even had a reserve list in place and that has been well utilised – it should be a great weekend.”
The Australian Production Cars series is just one of the five categories involved in the Shannons Nationals at Sandown Raceway on 11 – 13 May, with Australian GT, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, Australian Prototype Series, and Radical Australia Cup.
