Tyler Everingham has swapped a Camaro for a Mustang after joining The Racing Academy ahead of the National Trans Am Series’ next round at the Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton.
The young gun departs from Dream Racing Australia. After previously spending a number of years with The Racing Academy he will feature alongside new teammates Elliot Cleary and Cody Gillis at the Winton Raceway.
Dream Racing Australia will still field three cars though with a new driver to be confirmed shortly coming in for the departing Everingham, lining up alongside Josh Webster and Craig Scutella.
Ahead of his switch, Everingham was looking forward to getting behind the Mustang.
“I had a test day in the new car and I was happy and really comfortable,” Everingham said.
“It’s a new challenge, it’s a bit of a different driving style in these cars but it’s all a learning curve and I am looking forward to getting back into it at Winton.
“It’s looking like there could be rain, it’s all an unknown at this point but I’m comfortable in mixed conditions and I might even be doing a little bit of a rain dance.”
The six drivers form part of a strong field of 18 competitors headlined by series leader James Moffat, who will be eager to reclaim his position on the top step of the podium after leaving Phillip Island without a win.
Moffat leads Garry Rogers Motorsport teammate Lochie Dalton in the standings heading into the third round of the season, while Webster and Tom Hayman sit not far behind.
The lead group will have to keep an eye on the red-hot Supercheap Auto Racing entry of Nash Morris, with the Phillip Island winner returning for what will be his second appearance of the season.
The experienced Owen Kelly will be looking to make up some ground after a disappointing second round, which saw an incident with GRM teammate Edan Thornburrow in race two overshadow his race one win.
Also on the grid will be All American Drivelines’ Ben Grice and Pioneer DJ entry Elliot Barbour, as well as another potential race win winner in Brett Holdsworth, who will be behind the wheel of the TPS Group/Breeze Holiday Parks backed #99 Camaro.
NL Racing team’s Nick Lange is the only new addition to the field and will return after making his series debut at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International last November.
The Queenslander will pilot The Tefol Group supported Camaro and will be up against Wealth Rite Racing entrant Chris Pappas in the Hoosier Cup class.
Rounding out the field is John Holinger and the Holinger Racing #23 Camaro who will have his eyes set on the Masters Cup.
The National Trans Am Series will enjoy its traditional race schedule with two practice sessions on Friday, qualifying and the first race of the round on Saturday before wrapping up with two races on Sunday.
All three of series’ races will be broadcast live and ad-free via Stan Sport, with Saturday’s coverage on take place from 11:00am to 5:00pm AEST, while 9Gem will showcase the series live and free from 2pm AEST. Sunday’s Stan Sport coverage will start from 9:30am and will conclude at 5:00pm.
Tickets to the event can be purchased via motorsporttickets.com.au with plenty of ticketing options available.
The Shannons SpeedSeries’ Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton takes place at Winton Raceway on 9-11 June.
