After three rounds, Trans Ams has had a shake up in the standings with a number of drivers staking their case for the 2024 title tilts.
Just 72 points separate the top five drivers, making every manoeuvre crucial in the battle for first place, and it’s only these five drivers, who have dominated the field to pick up a victory.
Making headlines in 2024 have been the two James drivers with Golding currently hold the edge over Moffat.
So far, James Moffat has won more races in the season, most of which came on the opening weekend, but it hasn’t been enough to secure top spot in the drivers’ standings where James Golding holds first place by a slender margin of 19 points.
While the winners’ list has remained consistent, the podium section has seen plenty of different names with eight drivers picking up top three placings so far.
This was showcased back in the season opener at Sandown where Golding stated his intentions early with pole position, but it was Moffat who managed to finish out in front by winning the next three races.
It was the perfect start to his title defence with Moffat charging out to an early lead on the standings. However, it would take until the opening race of Phillip Island for him to register another win, with Golding and Jordan Boys each picking up two wins in Tasmania.
Another victory in Phillip Island, in addition to another two podiums, helped Golding end the Victorian round ahead of Moffat, setting up a mouth-watering second half of the season for out honours.
Behind the wheel of his Ford Mustang, Boys has picked up an impressive record of two wins, four podiums, two of which came whilst battling against Elliot Barbour at Race Tasmania.
In fourth place overall is former Supercars Championship star Todd Hazelwood, followed by Barbour and Clearly in fifth and sixth place respectively.
Interestingly, seventh place is held by Tim Slade with 189 points in the drivers standings despite have finished on the podium so far – his consistency of top five finishes keeping him within reach of a big result.
In eighth place is the fourth and final race winner of the season, with Nash Morris having picked up his win at Race Phillip Island making this his fifth career victory in the series.
