Champion’s Chat: Simon Fallon

The Shannons Nationals caught up with this year’s Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge Australia’s Outright and Professional class winner Simon Fallon, who won the title at Sydney Motorsport Park in September.

SN: First of all, congratulations on taking out this year’s season of Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge Australia. What were the celebrations like?

SF: Thank you! The celebrations were really good, getting to sit back and enjoy the moment with the whole team.

Everyone at Sonic is a real family and it felt good to celebrate the victory together.

SN: 2018 was a big season for you, what was your favourite on-track moment from this year?

SF: My favourite on-track moment would probably have to be the enduro Race 1 at Winton, just purely because it’s probably the most pressure I’ve had to deal with for the whole race being applied by Cooper [Murray] for the whole duration.

SN: Dare we ask … what was your worst moment from this season?

SF: There hasn’t been too many bad moments this year, but the worst moment this year would have to be Race 3 at Sandown where we would’ve made a good points bank, but I made a mistake losing the front splitter, which cost us a few positions.

SN: Do you know what your racing plans will be heading into 2019?

SF: The plan is to aim for Carrera Cup, although nothing is confirmed for 2019 as of yet.

SN: Is there anyone you’d like to thank from this year’s racing season?

SF: I couldn’t thank Sonic Motor Racing Services enough for everything they did this year, I couldn’t have done it without them.

They have taught me so much in such a short time and the championship definitely wouldn’t have even been a possibility if it wasn’t for them, as well as all the sponsors that made it possible to even be on the grid this year.

The Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge returns to the Shannons Nationals in 2019, with the series releasing its calendar for next season.
