Geoff Emery has recognised that the next two rounds at Sydney Motorsport Park and Queensland Raceway will be vital to his Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS title aspirations, while also confirming Max Hofer will rejoin the Jamec Racing team on both occasions.
The Austrian returns to the series after taking the round win alongside Emery at Phillip Island in May, with the pair currently sitting on top of the standings heading into the fourth round of the season at SMSP next weekend.
The category will then make the trip up north to Ipswich just two weeks later as part of the fifth round of the Shannons SpeedSeries, where they will cap off the four competitive races scheduled in just a short three-week timespan.
As a massive fan of the schedule ahead, Emery looks forward to getting back behind the wheel of the rapid Audi R8 LMS GT3 with Hofer and continuing to build towards another title charge.
“I think it’s going to be great; it puts everyone on the playing field, and I think we are going to go into Sydney pretty strong,” Emery said.
“We had a really good time with the three back-to-back rounds last year, it gives you good momentum because we only do six a year so the closer they are, the better it is for me personally.
“Momentum is very important for me; we have locked Max for both Sydney and Queensland and between us, we are having a pretty good run and leading the title race.’
Despite not having raced at both circuits in a number of years, Emery is certainly up for the challenge and is eager to add another trophy to the mantlepiece.
“I haven’t raced at both tracks since at least 2017, with QR going back to 2015, but that doesn’t matter, it’s all the same to me and everyone races on the same track,” Emery explained.
“It should be good; I love a good challenge racing against guys who have already been there in these cars, so I’ll have to be on top of my game to beat them.
“I have won three of these championships before, it would mean a lot to put another one on the wall and we need to score a lot of points in these two rounds to be within half a shot heading into the final round.”
The Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS is one of six national categories to feature at Queensland Raceway in August and will take the track for the first time on Friday for two practice sessions.
The traditional qualifying session will take place Saturday morning, while a series-first Top 10 shootout with a twist will set the grid and the Pirelli Pole Award for race two on Sunday.
Both of the category’s races, as well as the top 10 shootout, will feature in the Stan Sports coverage, where fans can watch the action live, on-demand and ad-free.
