Trans Am to continue thrilling 2024 season at the Island

A strong field of 18 competitors will grace the famous roads of the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit to continue what is becoming a thrilling Trico Trans Am Series season.

The series is just one of many impressive categories on display during this weekend’s Ford Mustang 60 Years Race Phillip Island, which pays homage to the iconic Ford Mustang.

In what will be a fitting moment for the category, there are plenty of drivers running Ford Mustangs for the event, including series leader James Moffat.

After clean sweeping the season opener at Sandown, Moffat faced plenty of challenges from Jordan Boys and James Golding in Tasmania, with the duo having won their first races of the year at Symmons Plains.

As a result of the entertaining second round, just 12 points separate the three drivers ahead of this weekend’s visit to Phillip Island – a venue that witnessed the closest race finish in the series’ history, as Nash Morris edged out Moffat by half a tenth in the final race.

Morris won two races on the Island last year, and will be looking to continue that rich run of form this weekend, while the likes of Elliott Cleary, Edan Thornburrow and two-time champion Nathan Herne will be the Queenslander’s biggest competition in the Young Gun battle.

Herne himself leads the Privateer charge, which includes category stars Elliot Barbour and Ben Grice. Barbour currently sits the highest of the lot on the standings following three runner-up finishes at last month’s AWC Race Tasmania.

In the Pro-Am class, Josh Webster has raced out to a strong lead, claiming the opening two rounds of the season thus far. The Tasmanian will face a mighty challenge from Chris Pappas, John Holinger and Mark Bailey.

The series will return to a three-race format this weekend after having four races at Symmons Plains last month.
