Current Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup leader Cameron Hill is looking forward to a favourable end to the 2021 season with visits to Mount Panorama and The Bend on the schedule.
With a single round at The Bend Motorsport Park as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships following a double round at the Repco Bathurst 1000, Hill is in the box seat to claim the series title.
After three rounds, the Canberran currently enjoys an 80-point buffer over the next best driver in Cooper Murray, while Harri Jones sits in third place a further 11 points off the mark.
As a result of Murray currently being in Europe contesting the Porsche Junior Global Shootout and the youngster is unlikely to appear at the remaining rounds, Hill’s charge towards the title has eased up significantly.
Helping the 25-year-old’s cause is his shining record at both remaining circuits, especially The Bend, where he claimed a clean sweep of wins during the second round of this season.
The hat-trick of wins at the South Australian circuit was part of Hill’s golden streak of six consecutive race victories, while a further two podiums out of the three other races further highlighted his dominant year behind the wheel.
Hill was then rewarded for his form during the first three rounds with a place in Triple Eight Racing’s 2022 Dunlop Super2 Series program.
With just the three rounds across two events awaiting Hill, the series leader was looking forward to a strong end to the year, which finishes at The Bend.
“I love both The Bend and Bathurst. I am certainly enjoying what the calendar looks like at the moment and I am hoping to finish the year on a high,” Hill said.
“For me, Tailem Bend is awesome and the track surface is beautiful. It’s fast flowing and suits our cars really well, although you need to have a lot of confidence to get a decent time there.
“To get to where we are now has been a lot of hard work, especially starting in 2018 where it was a new series and new a car to get used to, but we put the effort in and were always looking into ways we could find more speed.
“We were confident of having a strong year in 2020 and started well with the opening race win at the Australian Grand Prix, but then everything happened with COVID and we didn’t get the chance to continue.
“We worked hard and went about the motions to get us going for this year, so our form is off the back of good seat time and some good luck, but you make luck – it hasn’t just come out of nowhere.
“Honestly, it’s just great to be going racing. It’s a bit of a shame Cooper might not be back in time for the other rounds but we can only be focused on what we can control. There are always curve balls in racing.
“I wish Cooper all the best for his endeavours overseas, but I have my sights set on a strong domestic career in Supercars and I would love to start my Super2 chapter with a Carrera Cup title.”
The Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup heads to Mount Panorama for rounds four and five on 30 November – 5 December, before wrapping up at The Bend Motorsport Park on 10-12 December.
