Tilton Racing bring in the Shiels

A new driver will be on the carsales TCR Australia Series grid in 2020 with Canberra-based team Tilton Racing entering Brad Shiels for the six-round season.

The team will compete in the category’s second season as a privateer entry and will arm Shiels with the Kosta Pohorukov owned Hyundai i30N TCR for every round, starting in August at Sydney Motorsport Park for the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.

Shiels is no stranger to performing on the national stage with drives in the National Sport Sedans Series, Motorsport Australia GT Championship and Radical Australia Cup, as well as holding the current Bathurst lap record in the Radical.

Shiels also won the open class in the 2019 World Time Attack Challenge and competed in a Suzuka 10 Hour GT race, giving him a wealth of international experience too and the 28-year-old was excited to ply his trade in a TCR car later this year.

“This is going to be a great opportunity. I love the TCR category, it has competitive racing and some high profile names so it’s going to be great to be a part of it,” Shiels said.

“The calendar, considering the limited racing that we’re having this year, is awesome.

“In terms of results, I really don’t know what to expect. I’ve only driven the car once at a test day. I don’t have any expectations. We’ll just see how we go and try and work our way to the front.”
