There will be more awards for TCR Australia Series’ semi-professional drivers to aim for in 2020 with the category introducing the new Panta Cup.
Targeted at semi-professional and amateur drivers, the Panta Cup will reward eligible drivers who score the most series points at each round with a major international drive reward and extra prizes on offer.
The Panta Cup series winner at season’s end will also be rewarded with an impressive paid entry fee into an International TCR Endurance race event, as well as an introduction to international TCR teams.
Only six spots will be available in the Cup with Hyundai i30 N driver Michael King already securing a position and Category Manager Liam Curkpatrick was excited for what the new class would add.
“The great thing about the Panta Cup is that drivers who are deemed to be of a semi-professional or amateur experience will still compete under the same rules as the outright contenders,” Curkpatrick said.
“However, they will have their own race points to consider. It adds another talking point for the fans and followers, as well as an extra incentive for those in that class.
“By limiting the entrants to six, we are aiming to have all of those places filled quite quickly. It should be a competitive series in its own right.”
The opening TCR Australia event will be the inaugural Asia Pacific Cup, held at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix on 12-15 March before its it returns to the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships at Sydney in March.
