Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters (TCM) race winner Adam Bressington will return to the series at next week’s Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships round after re-signing with his former team, Whiteline Racing.
The five-time series race winner has yet to feature in 2021 with his more recent appearance at last year’s Adelaide Superloop 500 where he steered the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro to the round win.
Unfortunately the New South Welshman won’t be driving the same Camaro for his grand return with Mark King already behind the wheel, however it’s not all bad news as he has been confirmed to run the team’s Camaro RS, which was driven by Adam Garwood in the opening two rounds.
Having joined Whiteline Racing back in 2016, Bressington enjoyed a 31 round stint with the team, which saw him notch up 101 race starts and his first win in 2018 at Adelaide, before victories at Winton and Newcastle later that year saw him claim the Pro-Am Class.
While his season last year was cut short due to COVID-19, Bressington was looking forward to his return, which was made possible by Garwood leaving the team after two rounds.
“I can’t wait to be back. I wasn’t planning on a comeback at this point but I just want to race and enjoy it with no pressure,” Bressington said.
“I’m looking forward to hanging with my Whiteline family again and as a bonus, because it’s a local round my family can be there for the weekend too.”
Although the team was thrilled to welcome back Bressington, it was disappointed to lose Garwood, who finished second in Tasmania’s season opener and secured the team’s first pole in more than a decade during the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour.
“We’re sorry to see Adam and the Garwoods go; in just a short space of time we’ve had a lot of great results and good times together,” the team wrote on social media.
“But once you’re part of the Whiteline Racing family you never really leave, so they’ll always be part of our team – driving or not. We wish them the very best for their next adventures in life and in motorsport.”
With six drivers having won a race during what has been a competitive 2021 season, five-time champion John Bowe is currently leading the standings by just 17 points over Marcus Zukanovic.
Fans unable to attend the round will still be able to watch a large portion of the action with Saturday and Sunday to be broadcast live and free on 7plus and 7mate, while New Zealand viewers can tune into the round via Sky New Zealand and overseas fans can watch via Motorsport.tv.
The third round of the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters and Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships takes place at Sydney Motorsport Park on 30 March–2 April.
