The Precision National Sports Sedan series will start its 2023 season with a bang during this weekend at the Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton.
Boasting the largest entry of the whole event, a mammoth 29 competitors will line up on the grid when the series takes to the track for the first time this year after a lengthy off-season.
The reigning 2022 champion Jordan Caruso headlines the entry list in the Earlcore Property-sponsored Audi A4 and is looking to make it back-to-back titles.
After winning the 2023 Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup just last week, the Victorian had plenty of preparation for the season opener both in the car and behind the wheel of a simulator.
“Every time I get in the car, I feel like I’m getting better,” Caruso explained.
“I’ve been doing a lot of sim racing, which has helped in race craft and just confidence in general.
“It’s felt like forever since we drove, so when I do sim racing, I know I’m not in the real car so it might take me a few sessions to get up to speed, but it’s really been helping me when there is no opportunity to do the real thing.”
Although, nothing is guaranteed for the champion this weekend as many of his closest competitors, including runner-up finisher Steve Tamasi, Michael Robinson and Ashley Jarvis will all make a return.
There are also plenty of newcomers joining the series for the first time who will provide an element of the unknown heading into the opening round.
Headlining the abundance of new entries will be Performance Tower Hire’s Josh Haynes.
Haynes enters the event full of confidence after enjoying a solid lead up to this weekend, and the 19-year-old was keen to repeat in his first stint in the national category.
“I’ve only run in the NSW Sports Sedans series in the past, I got a call up through my engineer who knew a guy and I’m excited to take on the national stage,” Haynes said.
“We are going there to race, we want to have fun, but we will have a red-hot crack and stay out of trouble.
“It’s going to be awesome to learn, meet some new people and have some great racing.”
Despite his lack of experience in the category, the New South Welshman would love to be able to pressure the frontrunners.
“I don’t exactly know where we are going to stand, the top 10 would be ideal but if I can put the pressure on the guys at the front that would be great,” Haynes explained.
“I’ve done a bit of racing at Winton in the past, so I’m confident with the layout so it shouldn’t take too long to get into the rhythm.”
The Precision National Sports Sedan Series will be in action during this month’s Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton, with Saturday and Sunday’s action to be broadcast live and ad-free via Stan Sport.
Saturday’s coverage on Stan Sport will take place from 11:00am to 5:00pm AEST, while 9Gem will showcase the series live and free from 2pm AEST. Sunday’s Stan Sport coverage will start from 9:30am and will conclude at 5:00pm.
Tickets to the event can be purchased via motorsporttickets.com.au with plenty of ticketing options available.
The Shannons SpeedSeries’ Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton takes place at Winton Raceway on 9-11 June.
