Jack Smith has sealed his first-ever national series win, taking out the 2017 Kumho Tyre V8 Touring Car Series at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The Brad Jones Racing driver did it in style, taking the Race One victory from pole to claim the series win.
Tyler Greenbury finished second in the series, in a battle that went down to the final race with Michael Anderson.
“It feel amazing to get my first national title and in sort of spectacular fashion by running out of fuel on the line,” Smith said.
“I couldn’t believe the start – I thought I slipped the clutch well, but I couldn’t stop the wheelspin… I heard Tyler had the same thing, I was hard into it and hoped for the best, and it turned out pretty well.
“It means a lot to wrap up the title up, to me, the family and the team. It was a massive step up for us and I feel like we’ve come a long way and made a massive step for the future.”
As well as securing third for the outright series, Anderson took home the Kumho Cup title for 2017, ahead of Jon McCorkindale and Jim Pollicina.
Bradley Neill was victorious in Heritage Cup claiming the class win ahead of Troy Stapleton and Andy Cantrell.
