Shannons’ schedule locked in

The schedule for a mega Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships visit to Phillip Island has now been confirmed.

The 18-20 March event is the first of two visits to the iconic Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in 2022, with fans treated to plenty of action both on and off the track.

Fan friendly action gets underway on Thursday night, with a street party featuring cars, drivers and teams who will be in action across the weekend.

Thursday’s street party begins from 5pm and is free for everyone, and includes the Hot Wheels Stunt Team and autograph sessions for motorsport fans.

Seven categories will be on show across the weekend, including the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS (Motorsport Australia GT Championship), S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship, Radical Australia Cup, Turtle Wax Trans Am Series, Precision National Sports Sedans and the Australian Formula Ford Series.

Friday is when the on track action begins, with a mix of practice and qualifying sessions to open proceedings. Entry to Friday’s events are free, but anyone wishing to attend must register in advance.

Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations Michael Smith said the event promised to be an exciting one, with a focus on fans attending the Phillip Island event.

“The Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships are always a great day or weekend out with back-to-back racing across the weekend and plenty of exciting categories on show yet again,” Smith said.

“This year though, we’ve wanted to make sure we improve the overall event experience and have made some big changes to what fans can expect at the event with a real family friendly environment.

“The great thing about the Shannons events is that you don’t need any special paddock pass, a general admission ticket will allow you full access to the paddock to see the teams, their cars and the drivers up close. Add to that the addition of the Hot Wheels Stunt Team and an improved at event experience, we’re excited about what this Phillip Island event will offer.

“We’d also encourage all ticket holders to extend their stay and make the most of all the amazing tourism opportunities that can be experienced on the amazing Phillip Island. There’s lots to do across the Island, as well as plenty of accommodation options, so we know lots of fans will enjoy the opportunity to experience everything Phillip Island has to offer, including being part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event.”

Anyone wishing to attend the event is reminded tickets will not be available for purchase at the gate. Tickets must be purchased via Eventbrite prior to entry. Purchasing your tickets in advance will save you time at the gate.
