CAMS Australian GT Trophy Series presented by Pirelli 

Richard Gartner

Richard Gartner has laid down lap record pace at Wakefield Park, as part of the final round of the CAMS Australian GT Trophy Series.

Gartner emerged on top in qualifying with a 58.495 lap in his Lamborghini, shattering the previous qualifying lap record of 1:01.255 set by Greg Crick in 2006.

Having topped the first 20-minute session, Gartner went almost a second quicker to set the fastest time across both qualifying outings.

Current Trophy class leader Steve McLaughlan in the Audi R8 LMS.

Title-rival Rod Salmon will start third, alongside Rio Nugara in fourth.

After struggling with mechanical issues during practice, Wayne Mack bounced back to go fifth fastest in the Ferrari 458 GT3, one place better than Mark Griffith in the leading Challenge Modern class entry.

The Griffith Corporation Ferrari F430 set a 1:00.617 lap in the second session, just bettering the impressive John Goodacre who managed 1:00.724 as he clocked the fourth fastest time in the opening qualifying session.

The series will run its final two 50-minute races for the season tomorrow.

 

Australian Production Car Series 

Iain and Grant Sherrin

Iain and Grant Sherrin have sealed their second victory for the season during the first 300-kilometre Australian Production Car Series race.

The Sherrin Racing M4 was strong at the Wakefield Park circuit in greasy conditions, claiming the win by almost 20 seconds.

Nathan Morcom and Andre Heimgartner fought hard in the race, climbing back in wet conditions during to finish second in their Focus RS, bolstering Morcom’s title chances.

An impressive drive by Lachlan Gibbons and Dimitri Agathos saw them round out the podium in their Subaru with third.

Anthony Soole and David Giugni crossed the line fourth, ahead of Tyler Everingham and Calum Jones who took the C class win.

Class D winners and sixth outright were brothers Blake and Kyle Aubin, ahead of Colin Osborne and Hadrian Morrall.

Victory in A2 went to Chris Lillis and Nathan Callaghan, with E class to Brianna Wilson/Matthew Boylan and B2 to Troy and Gordon Wilson.

The Australian Production Car Series will have another 300-kilometre race tomorrow to round out their 2017 season.

 

Circuit Excel Nationals 

Ben Bargwanna

Ben Bargwanna and Cameron Wilson today shared races wins, after taking out the first and second races respectively in the Circuit Excel Nationals at Wakefield Park.

With the field divided into two heats after qualifying, Bargwanna crossed the line first in Heat 1, with current lap record holder Cameron Bartholomew in second and Brock Giblin third.

Victorians Michael Clemente and Harley Phelan were fourth and fifth, while South Australian Asher Johnston rounded out the top six.

Reigning Circuit Excel National title holder Cameron Wilson took first place in Heat 2, finishing ahead of Victorians Adam Bywater and Marcus Fraser.

Fifteen-year-old Jaylyn Robotham was fourth, ahead of Brett Parrish and Jordyn Sinni.

The Circuit Excel Nationals return to the Shannons Nationals tomorrow for two more heats and a final.
