The inaugural Kumho Tyre V8 Sleuth Touring Car Classic will have a touch of sentiment to it when it honours two-time Australian Touring Car Champion Glenn Seton with a trophy in his name.
The ‘Glenn Seton Trophy’ will be presented to the winner of the V8 Supercars pre-Project Blueprint era class for that cars manufactured between 1992 and 2002 at the end of the race.
A major player during the era as both a driver and team owner of Glenn Seton Racing, Seton claimed his Australian Touring Car Championships in 1993 and 1997.
Following the announcement, Seton was thrilled to have a trophy named in his honour for the classic race.
“I’m extremely honoured to have a trophy like this named in my honour,” Seton said.
“There are a lot of fans that have great memories of that 1990s period of racing and I absolutely do as well. It was a great period of the sport with a lot of growth and exciting advancements.
“Those two championship wins in the 1990s are right up there as the most satisfying achievements of my entire racing career.
“To have my contribution to that era of racing honoured with a trophy is humbling and very special.”
There are a variety of cars that fall under the Pre-Project Blueprint era class, including Ford Falcon EF and AU models, as well as the EB and EL models that Seton drove in title winning years.
Holden Commodore VP, VR, VS, VT and VX models are also eligible to compete in the class.
In addition to a class for pre-Project Blueprint era cars, there will also be a class for post-Project Blueprint cars covering 2003 to 2007 up to the VZ Commodore and BF Falcon.
The Kumho Tyre V8 Sleuth Touring Car Classic will take place at Winton Motor Raceway as part of the Shannons Nationals on 31 August to 1 September.
