Schutte to give his all in Radical Cup title race

Elliott Schutte is eagerly anticipating his return to the track where he secured his only round victory this year, as the race for the Workhorse Radical Cup Australia title intensifies.

The exciting open-cockpit category will join the international Race Sydney event at Sydney Motorsport Park as part of Shannons SpeedSeries in November, where it will wrap up what has been a highly competitive season to date.

The West Australian currently sits eight points behind rookie driver, Alex Gardner in the series standings with two rounds remaining.

His best result came in the opening round of the season at Eastern Creek in June, however since then, Gardner has taken both round wins in Queensland and Victoria.

In what has been a competitive season so far, Schutte was enjoying the challenge and was keen to give everything he had to take home the title.

“This season has been super competitive and there has been some impressive driving from Alex – who has been quick from day one, so it’s pretty tight at the top between us,” Schutte said.

“Because the success penalty has been removed, it’s been flat out racing from start to finish, which is just really awesome.

“Getting the title would mean a lot to me, I am very competitive, and the title is definitely my goal.

“We will be throwing everything at it to try and get the win, but it won’t come easy.”

Ahead of Race Sydney, Schutte was confident of a repeat result but knew he will have to be at his absolute best if he wants to compete with the series leader.

“Everything fell my way last time we were in Sydney but Alex had some form of issue in the last race which put him out, so I will still have some work to do if I want to beat him,” Schutte explained.

“We were struggling with the setup last time and we weren’t able to wrap our heads around it until now, so it will be good to go back and have a go with it all sorted out.

“This series I have been trying to drive for the points and not take huge risks, I am feeling good that it’s close enough at the top.

“I like Sydney as a track, it’s full on the entire lap and I think we have three or four sprint races that round – which is good to mix it up a little.”

The exciting category will make one final stop before joining Shannons SpeedSeries in November, competing at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park under the Shannons Trophy Series banner this weekend.

“We have been to Adelaide just the one time last year, so I have a little bit of experience, but not heaps,” Schutte added.

“But I love the track and the car goes pretty well around there, so I am going into It very confident.

“The Radicals are bloody good cars. This category is hopefully starting to speak for itself in terms of what it can offer for young up and coming drivers as a steppingstone and for someone like me it’s just awesome to be a part of.”

Workhorse Radical Cup Australia will next compete at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park on 13-15 October.

It will then join Shannons SpeedSeries at Race Sydney at Sydney Motorsport Park on 3-4 November for the season finale.
