David Crampton will make his Australian GT debut in the CAMS Australian GT Championship next weekend at the Shannons Nationals.
Crampton will team up with fellow debutant Trent Harrison at Interlloy/M Motorsport after they met competing with M Motorsport earlier in the year.
The pair will be driving in the KTM X-Bow GT4 as they compete in the growing GT4 Class alongside Interlloy/M Motorsport sister car piloted by Justin McMillan and Glen Wood.
Sydney born Crampton is the latest driver to join the GT championship, taking the field to five cars, after spending time in the Radical Australia Cup.
“Justin (McMillan) made me an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Crampton said.
“I’ve been racing in the Radical Australia Cup for the last four years, and the last two years we got on the podium for the championship.
“Then I did the 12 Hour and it gave me a taste of the other side, so we’ve made it happen.
“It’s a fantastic car to drive. It’s basically a purpose built race car, and that’s what I like about it.”
While Cameron was unable to finish the Bathurst 12 Hour in February, more time in the KTM GT4 will give him more experience and improve his performance in the class.
“The KTM has a bit more mechanical grip, so I’m enjoying the difference in driving technique,” Crampton added.
“I really want to bond with the car now.
“The boys have done a great job, and it’s actually getting a new wrap put on it – it’s a surprise for me how it’s going to look.”
Crampton and Harrison will be hoping for a solid debut as they look to catch Jeremy Gray who leads the GT4 class after winning the opening sprint round last month.
The GT4 class will race in the first round of the Australian GT endurance Championship at the new 7.7km Bend MotorSport Park circuit on the 14-15 April.
