Just two rounds remain in the Australian Prototype Series ahead of the Shannons Nationals this weekend as Jason Makris looks to extend his lead at the top of the standings.
The Wolf GB08CN driver will lead the three-car Prototype charge in the Radical dominated 15-car field after taking out second place in the previous round at Queensland Raceway.
The other two Prototype drivers taking part are defending series champion Mark Laucke and John-Paul Drake, with in pair in a tight battle of their own for outright second.
Headlining the Radical drivers is 2017 Radical Australia Cup (RAC) champion Peter Paddon, who returns to the track after taking a break from the sport to focus on his family.
“Competing in Sydney was a simple decision because I can drive the race car in the day and play with my kids at night, so there will be lots of coffee in between” Paddon said.
“It is exciting to be back in the Prototypes and the RAC for my home round.”
The round one winner will also be facing stiff competition from fellow RAC competitors Tony and Simon Haggerty, Chris Perini and Philip Hughes, all of whom return to the series after missing the round in Ipswich.
Currently occupying fourth outright, Hughes is the highest placed Radical driver on the standings and will be looking to close down Makris ahead of the final round in November.
Following a disappointing ending to the Shannons Nationals at Queensland Raceway, New South Welshman Stephen Champion re-joins the series in hopes of improving on his 10th outright and closing down Paddon and Haggerty.
Fresh from a positive home-debut at Queensland Raceway, Carmelo Bonaventura will return for his second round of the season.
Sue Hughes and Peter Clare will put aside their battle for fourth in the RAC, to go head-to-head in the Australian Prototype Series, while Paul Braico will also to return after not taking part in the previous round.
Rounding out the field is Michael Whiting who makes his first appearance for 2018 and series debutants Zig Fuhrmeister and Chris Sutton.
The Australian Prototype Series will hold a qualifying session on Saturday morning before a 12-lap race on Saturday afternoon and an 18-lap race on Sunday.
The Shannons Nationals at Sydney Motorsport Park will take place on 21-23 September with live coverage of Sunday’s sessions available live and free at speedseries.com.au.
