Peters scores Production Cup debut at Tailem Bend

The Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars will welcome a new debutant when it holds the second round of its 2024 season at Shell-V Power Motorsport Park as part of the Race Tailem Bend.

Brent Peters is the driver confirmed to enter the series and will be behind the wheel of the Luxe Performance VE SS Commodore in the B2 class alongside Damien Croxon.

Having originally started out in hill climbs in New Zealand, Peters has been racing in circuit after moving to Darwin in 2010.

Since getting first hooked on circuit racing, he has moved to Western Australia and raced in a number of state-level categories including Excels, Sports Sedans, and Improved Production Cars, where he competes currently.

Having been talked into joining the Meguiar’s Australian Production Cars by category veteran Chris Lillis, Peters was looking forward to the new experience.

“Chris basically talked me into it,” Peters said.

“It wasn’t hard though – this is the best value endurance racing in a national category, and after enjoying podiums and wins in drifting, Excel Cup, Sports Sedans, RX8 Cup and Production Cars locally, I was looking for a new challenge.”

“It (VE SS Commodore) is a new car to me, but previously belonged to my tuner Shannon of Tune Corp. I love it because it is rear-wheel drive and easy to maintain.

“A fun fact about it is that it has gone 300kph once at the 2019 Racewars event – I don’t think I will be taking it to those speeds on the twists and turns of the Bend’s Western Circuit though.”

With the series getting four one-hour races over the course of the weekend, Peters was ready to tackle the new challenge, having never been to the South Australian circuit.

“I am a Bend ‘virgin’, so I am very much looking forward to the experience,” Peters added.

“It will be great to get some national experience and hopefully we can be competitive as well. Hopefully having a larger, stable car will help us in the long races.

“While we are on track we will be continuing our fundraising efforts for the Black Dog Institute. So far we have raised $4,000 across our racing in WA, and hopefully we can add to that tally at The Bend.”

Tickets for Race Tailem Bend are available for purchase at motorsporttickets.com.au with multiple ticketing options on sale, including weekend passes and corporate packages.

Fans who can’t make it to the track will be able to tune into the event via the live and free broadcasts on Seven on Saturday and Sunday.
