Nathan Herne charges to the podium at NOLA

Dual National Trans Am Series title winner Nathan Herne again starred racing in the US, racing to second at NOLA Motorsports Park at Round 2.

Herne is contesting the US Trans Am Championship for Stevens-Miller Racing in a Ford Mustang backed by Cube3. As local competitors were racing at Symmons Plains, Herne started his campaign at Sebring as he charged from the back in the pack to 15th before a cut tyre dropped him out of contention.

Aiming to bounce back at NOLA Motorsport Park in Louisiana, Herne started it perfectly by finish on top in the opening practice session and fourth in the second.

Qualifying proved a challenge as the set-up window was missed and Herne placed 15th, but hopes remained high for the race as his Cube3 Ford Mustang definitely had front running pace.

What followed was an impressive drive from Herne as he took second on the final lap, making positions methodically throughout the encounter in what were warm conditions.

Herne exited the Cube3 Ford Mustang drenched in sweat following a stunning drive through the field considering not all things went right during the race.

“I’ve worked hard before, but Jesus Christ,” Herne stated on social media. “P15-P2 on the line.

“Cool suit failed, no helmet fan and lost my drink straw on the 8th lap. It’s a hot, humid place here at NOLA, that was hard work.

“We’re fast, though we’ve got to tune up this straight line handling to keep up with the others, but we were bad fast around the corners.

“Looking forward to the weekend off, then we’re back at Road Atlanta!

“Good to give the boys a trophy! It’s been an awesome time, good to get some championship points!”

Herne’s next round is at Road Atlanta in two weeks time on 23-26 March.
