McElrea Racing confirm 2021 Porsche

Reigning Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia champions McElrea Racing will enter the 2021 season with five cars as it looks to go back-to-back.

Leading the charge for the Queensland based outfit will be Ryan Suhle and 2019 Class B winner Christian Pancione, with both drivers looking like serious contenders for the title.

Joining the duo in the series this year will be young GT rising star Bayley Hall, multiple time Pro-Am podium placer Michael Hovey and Richard Cowen, who made his series debut at last year’s Shannons Motorsport Australia Festival at Sandown.

With Pancione also running a few rounds in the Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia, team owner Andy McElrea was thrilled to confirm their five car line-up for the season.

“We are really looking forward to the 2021 Carrera Cup and Sprint Challenge Series,” McElrea said.

“For the first time in our 13-year history, we have the perfect number of customers for our business model, that is four cars in each series, with businessman Richard Cowen also doing a partial Sprint Challenge Championship and (Christian) ‘Pancho’ doing some selected rounds of the Carrera Cup Australia series in preparation for 2021.

“We all realise that we will need to be flexible with plans and logistics for 2021, as some disruptions are inevitable, but we love a challenge and are always prepared to adapt on the run.

“We started testing with our Sprint Challenge drivers already, while our first Carrera Cup test takes place in February.”

The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia begins the 2021 season at Phillip Island as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ Australian All Wheels Race Fest on 19-21 February.
