MARC Cars confirm diverse field for Sandown

Three MARC Cars Australia specifications will grace Sandown International Raceway this weekend when the category joins the Shannons SpeedSeries bill for the first time this year.

The confirmed entry list is compiled of MARC I, MARC II and MARC GT cars, with some familiar faces to return for an epic weekend of racing at the popular Victorian circuit.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at motorsporttickets.com.au.

Much like the previous round at Queensland Raceway, the category will see two GTs in the field, including GaP Solutions/ULX Oils’ John Goodacre – who made his series debut in the GT 002.

The South Australian has plenty of experience at Sandown and knew there is loads of potential in the new car.

“I have done heaps of racing in the past, I’ve raced for 25 or so years and I think Sandown is a great track, I’m looking forward to getting down there,” Goodacre said.

“There are a couple of things we need to have a look at in practice with the ripple strips on the track, but other than that, it’s a nice short, fast and technical track so I can’t wait.”

Joining Goodacre in the GT class will be the experienced Geoff Taunton – who will take the wheel of the stunning blue MARC GT 001 in the absence of its usual pilot Adam Hargraves.

While the new GTs may be the centre of attention for many motor enthusiasts, the MARC I and MARC II classes are destined to put on a show during the category’s three races.

MRA Roofing & Construction’s Darren Currie will pilot a white MARC II V8 Mustang while fellow Queenslander, Grant Donaldson, will rival Currie in a sleek orange and white Mustang of his own.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at motorsporttickets.com.au.

The MARC I class will make up the bulk of the entries at Sandown, with five competitors to continue their charge for class honours after an entertaining battle thus far.

Off the back of a round victory in Queensland, Andrew Leithhead will return in the GTA Motorsport MARC Focus in search of back-to-back wins.

Fellow podium-getters, Frank Mammarella and Jacob Camilleri will both look to go at least one better in Victoria but will also have Warren Cleland and Cameron McLeod on their radar.

MARC Cars Australia will be one of six national categories to form part of the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sandown International Raceway this weekend, joining the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, National Trans Am Series, Kumho V8 Touring Car Series, Australian Formula Open and the combined Mobil 1 Australian Production Car Series and Monochrome GT4 Australia Series.

The category will undertake two practice sessions on Friday, before qualifying determines the grid for the first of its three timed races across the jam-packed weekend.

You can catch all the action on Stan Sport on Saturday and Sunday, while 9Gem and 9Go will showcase Saturday afternoon’s action from 2pm-5pm and interested viewers are encouraged to check their local guides for more information.
