Former National Sports Sedan Series champion Steve Tamasi believes he won’t have a lack of experience at Morgan Park when the 2021 season resumes next month.
The second round of the season is part of a bumper Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships schedule at the Warwick-based circuit with the series to get up to three races across out the weekend
And while it will be the first round of the Championships at the circuit since 2011, the length between meetings for Tamasi is just as long with the 28-year-old last competing there 10-years-ago.
At that point in the Victorian’s career, he was just a teenager racing in the Australian Superkart Championship, however the round proved to be quite successful for him.
“It’s been some time since I have raced at Morgan Park, but I am really looking forward to it,” Tamasi said.
“It’s been a good track to me and although I have only been there once before, I actually won the national Superkarts title then so it brings good memories.
“I do remember the track not holding up too well as the weekend progressed, but it didn’t have too much of an effect on me as I still managed to come away with lap records at the time.
“A lot of time has passed and I have definitely developed and improved as a driver since then that weekend, so I am confident I will be able to adapt pretty quickly to the circuit.”
Tamasi isn’t wrong to think he has improved significantly either.
Reaching his 100th career race milestone during the series’ opening round earlier this year, Tamasi has amassed a total of 65 podiums and a race win record of almost one in every five.
His stats in the National Sports Sedan Series is also impressive, having taken out the title in 2018 after a thrilling battle with series long-time superstar, Tony Ricciardello.
In the 2021 season, Tamasi’s journey for a second title is well on track thanks to a round one win and the Holden Calibra driver believes he can continue his good start to the year at Morgan Park despite not being there for a while.
“I am pretty confident with how the car is at the moment and it should go well on the circuit, especially since I am going to prepare pretty thoroughly for this round,” Tamasi added.
“I have plenty of footage and race notes from Morgan Park at my disposal, which is very important because if I can get that right, it will prevent me from wasting a session or two once we get there.
“It is a bit of an even playing field as a lot of the competitors have not been there, but there would probably be a slight advantage for the Queenslanders who would no doubt do state rounds there.
“For me though, when we went to The Bend back in 2018, I had zero experience along with everyone else and I adapted the quickest, which helped me get the round win.
“So I am hoping for a bit of the same next month too. Sports Sedans has some real tough drivers so it should be a great weekend and I am really itching to get back out there.”
The second round of the 2021 National Sports Sedan Series takes place at the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships’ round at Morgan Park on 13-15 August.
