Burson Auto Parts Rookie of Tasmania, Lochie Hughes, is chomping at the bit to return to racing at Phillip Island early next month.
Since the conclusion of Symmons Plains, Hughes’ mind has solely been focused on further success at Phillip Island.
“I get very bored between racing as I’m missing out on what I love doing,” Hughes said.
“But there are many things to do between racing like fitness work, school work, and spending time with friends and family.”
A keen enthusiast of circuit racing, Hughes has been watching plenty of international racing as inspiration for where he would like to one day end up.
“Also watching races like F1, F2, F3, and Supercars between races is nice but also makes you want to get in the car even more,” Hughes said.
The opening round at Symmons Plains was a happy hunting ground for the young Queenslander, in what was his first circuit race weekend out of several years in karting.
“I was very happy with the pace I had there, always being in the top three, but I just need to turn that into podiums at Phillip Island as I just missed out in Tasmania,” Hughes said.
“I am very excited about racing again and seeing how much I can improve from Tasmania at Phillip Island. And trying to push for some podiums.”
Though it will be his first race at the venue, Hughes has clocked up plenty of testing mileage prior to the round.
“My favourite corner at Phillip Island would be Honda because I love the way I can just attack it,” Hughes said.
“The fast corners are very fun. To set a good lap at Phillip Island is hard as it’s such a big lap, and you need to be very smooth and committed – but when you do it’s a very good feeling.”
Round Two of the CAMS Australian Formula 4 Championship commences on Friday 1 June at Phillip Island, as part of the Shannons Nationals weekend.
