Hangcha to lift Bargwanna for 2024 TCR campaign

Ben Bargwanna has confirmed he will return to the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series in 2024 for his fourth consecutive season in the series.

With Hangcha Forklifts coming on board as his major sponsor for 2024, Bargwanna will be behind the wheel of his current Peugeot 308 before making a switch to Garry Rogers Motorsport’s newly constructed 308 midway through the season.

Although Hangcha Forklifts will be Bargwanna’s new major partner for TCR Australia, it won’t be the first time the two parties have worked together, with the successful Chinese handling equipment manufacturer having supported the driver’s international TCR World Tour campaign last year.

Not only did 2023 see Bargwanna complete three international events as part of the Kumho TCR World Tour, but he also had a breakout season domestically, which ended in his best overall position of seventh place overall.

Finishing the TCR Australia season with three podiums and an outright pole position at the TCR World Tour round at Sydney Motorsport Park, Bargwanna amassed 602 points in total.

Ahead of the 2024 season opener next month, Bargwanna was looking forward to his newest campaign, which may also include another international stint.

“It’s going to be a big year,” Bargwanna said.

“The way we approach the season will be very different to previous years and it will be important to maximise the rounds when we don’t have the new Peugeot. Then, when the new 308 TCR comes on stream, we can take full advantage to be in title contention at the end of the year.

“Hangcha came on board last year in supporting some S5000 and TCR campaigns and we’ve built a good relationship. Hangcha enjoyed the experience last year, so going into this year with its support is pretty awesome and it will be a big season for us.

“At the moment we’re focused on Australia, but if we can make some things happen overseas it’d be awesome and we’ll be pushing hard to get those opportunities.

“I travelled overseas last year and got a taste for what it’s like to compete against the best TCR teams and drivers. I know what to expect, and I really hope we can get the right deals across the line to get back there and have another crack.”

The 2024 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series season gets underway next month with the Shannons SpeedSeries’ first event of the year at Sandown International Raceway.
