Former full-time Supercars Championship driver James Golding has furthered in his 2020 motorsport plans and will continue driving in S5000 Australia for Garry Rogers Motorsport (GRM).
Golding had a brilliant debut in Australia’s newest open-wheel category last year, grabbing a feature race win during the inaugural round at Sandown Raceway as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.
Visits to Phillip Island, Sydney Motorsport Park, The Bend Motorsport Park, and Bathurst are all part of this year’s six-round season with Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix to kick off the year in March.
Ahead of the inaugural S5000 Australia season, Golding was thrilled to confirm his year and get back in the cars.
“I can’t wait to get back in. The first two rounds were fantastic and it is a category that I have fallen in love with,” Golding said.
“I’ve worked and raced at GRM for the past few years, so I know the team really well. We had strong pace at both events, so I feel that we’ll be in with a good chance.
“I’m looking forward to getting to a few new tracks too. Places like Sydney Motorsport Park and Phillip Island are going to be a real challenge. There looks like there’s going to be some very fast guys in there as well that will make me work for the results.
“This is the perfect way to keep fit and sharp for the endurance races. I think these two types of cars will work hand in hand with each other.”
While Golding will compete in S5000 full-time, he will also enjoy a part-time stint in the Supercars’ three-round Pirtek Endurance Cup, driving alongside Mark Winterbottom for Team 18.
Round one of the S5000 season begins at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park on 12-15 March.
