The Shannons Nationals this weekend welcomes a unique category, the Motum Simulation VSR Showdown.
It is the first of its kind to be piloted by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, with digital licences, regulations and permits issued for the first time.
Incorporated within this weekend’s Sydney Motorsport Park round, CAMS simulator partner Motum Simulation will host the Esports component at the venue with CAMS to provide officiating and judicial support to the event.
Online qualifying concluded over the weekend, with the top 12 to advancing to the VSR Showdown. Out of 140 starters, 109 entrants set a valid time aboard the control Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car at the Mount Panorama Circuit.
A mix of actual and virtual racers qualified, with Joshua Anderson the fastest in the Porsche with a 2:04.389.

Live Qualifying will begin on Friday, 21 September at Sydney Motorsport Park, with 23 races to take place between Saturday and Sunday across a field of 27 drivers. The events will comprise of elimination heats and finals on iRacing, using three Motum Simulation’s MP6-VR. Anyone is welcome to attend and enter.
The winner of the event will get a chance to show off their real world skills, with a test day in a CAMS PAYCE Australian Formula 4 car.
The pilot is expected to continue with further events in October and February, with the intention of a CAMS Australian Championship in the near future.
The Motum Simulation VSR Showdown 2018 at Shannons Nationals will be held at the Amaroo South Pit Building, situated between Turns 4 & 5 of the Gardner GP Circuit.
The event will be streamed on the iRacing Esports Network on YouTube, along with coverage across the Shannons Nationals live stream at speedseries.com.au.
