Dutton to field Supercars star for GT at Sandown

Dutton to field Supercars star for GT at Sandown The Motorsport Australia GT Championship will welcome one of Australia’s biggest drivers for next month’s round at Sandown.

Signing on with Dutton EMA Motorsport, Repco Supercars Championship star Cameron Waters will contend the round behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT3 R Gen II at the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event.

Unfortunately, issues out of their control meant the Melbourne-based team had to delay the delivery of the car, forcing a delayed entry in the championship.

However with the car now in Melbourne, a solid testing program planned and Waters’ services secured, the team will begin its 2021 GT campaign on a high.

Although it will start in the championship towards the end of the season, the team also intends to enter the Motorsport Australia Endurance Champion Pro / Am Championship later this year.

Waters, who last competed in a GT3 car back in 2018 as part of the iconic Bathurst 12 Hour event, was looking forward to getting back into the category again. “I have been keen to do more GT racing since 2018,” Waters said.

“Diversifying into different categories creates new disciplines and challenges, and I can’t wait for my chance to drive the Porsche product and battle for race wins.” Joining Waters for the Sandown event is amateur driver Ben Stack, who is currently representing the team in his debut Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia season.

With the driver line-up confirmed for the Sandown event, Dutton EMA Motorsport Team Manager, Mathew Nilsson was excited about the rest of 2021, as well as working with the Supercars race winner.

“Our Porsche 911 GT3 R programme has been progressing for quite some time now, with a lot of effort behind the scenes,” Nilsson said.

“Signing a Pro driver of the calibre and professionalism of Cam has been an important achievement, we welcome him to our team and look forward to working with him. “Ben has been a big contributor to the establishment of Dutton EMA Motorsport.

“We are pleased to provide him with the opportunity to gain further experience in the Porsche 911 GT3 R working closely with Cam during testing and contesting the Sandown event.”

The Motorsport Australia GT Championship’s fourth round will be as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships at Sandown Raceway on 17-19 September.
