Caruso joins TCR with old pals

Former Virgin Australia Supercars Championship regular Michael Caruso will compete in the 2020 carsales TCR Australia Series after signing a two-year-deal with Garry Rogers Motorsport (GRM).

The deal, which will have Caruso behind the wheel of a new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce, will see the 36-year-old reunited with the Victorian team for the first time since 2012, as well as one of its major sponsors for 2020 in Valvoline Australia.

First joining GRM in 2008 for his first full-time Supercars season, the New South Welshman enjoyed a solid five-year stint with the team, which included a race win in Darwin and a Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 podium in 2009.

Caruso said he was looking forward to re-joining the GRM ranks for the new challenge.

“I’m really excited to partner with Valvoline and the Garry Rogers Motorsport team for the next two years in the TCR Series,” Caruso said.

“I’ve had the opportunity to work with both organisations in the past, and I have so many great memories and still hold many lifelong friendships from those years. GRM as an organisation has a fantastic, hard working group of people which are like family to one another and that resonates with me.

“I watched the first season of TCR Australia and you can see the potential that it has. I knew I wanted to be a part of it, and it is even better that I get the chance to link up with Valvoline and GRM to do it. I know that as a team we have all of the right ingredients to make it successful.”

Caruso will make his official TCR debut at the Formula 1 Rolex Australia Grand Prix next month as part of the TCR Asia Pacific Cup, before the official 2020 carsales TCR Australia Series season starts at Sydney Motorsport Park on 27-29 March with the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships.
