Camilleri’s comeback

Jake Camilleri has announced his return to the Jacuzzi Spas Australian Production Cars (APC) for this weekend’s Shannons Nationals at Queensland Raceway.

The experienced Camilleri will team up with Brad Woods behind the wheel of the #5 MARC Cars Australia BMW 1M in Class A1 for the APC second round and popular ‘Fight in the Night’ race.

The five-time APC national class champion will be looking to take out the class victory and add to his four Class C and one Class B titles, alongside an array of Bathurst 12 Hour, Sepang 12 Hour and the GT trophy series victories.

“It has been a couple of years since I ran with the Australian Production Cars, so it should be good fun to get back to the category this weekend,” Camilleri said.

“It looks like the fields have been growing over the last couple of years and we have quite a big entry list for this weekend. I love that. I love the competition.

“I spent a lot of years running a Mazda 3 in Class C, so when (MARC Cars Australia team owner) Ryan McLeod asked me if I would run with Brad in Class A, I couldn’t say no.

“I am really looking forward to it and being a Class A car it is probably going to be pretty exciting.”

Camilleri will act as the replacement for Wood’s regular driver, Drew Ridge, after the pair secured a gallant eighth in the series’ first round at Sandown in May.

His inclusion is a major coup for the team, according to team owner Ryan McLeod, with his experience alone enough to help the development of Woods as a driver.

“Brad is doing a great job so far and having Jake on board this weekend will be great with helping him with his learning curve and his ongoing development,” McLeod said.

“With plenty of time under his belt at QR and so much production car experience Jake was a natural choice when we were looking for someone to help Brad continue his development.

“We are really happy to have Jake on-board this weekend.”

The second round of the 2018 Jacuzzi Spas Australian Production Cars will be held at Queensland Raceway on 28 – 29 July with two 300 kilometre races held across the weekend, including the iconic Fight in the Night on Saturday evening.
