Camilleri crew to reunite in Ipswich

Jake Camilleri is set to make his first appearance in the Australian Production Cars Series for 2019 after confirming plans to compete in the popular Fight in the Night at Queensland Raceway next month.

Forming part of the Shannons Nationals’ blockbuster line-up that includes TCR Australia and the Hyundai X3 Queensland series, the Fight in the Night has recently become a staple of the Shannons Nationals’ Queensland visit.

Making his maiden 2019 appearance even more special will be the car and team he brings along with him, with Camilleri to be behind the wheel of his trusty popular Grand Prix Mazda-supported Mazda 3 MPS.

With the car not being driven since 2015 when the series was known as the Australian Manufacturers Championship, Camilleri was excited to bring it back out of retirement for the night race.

“The Mazda hasn’t run in around four years but we are pretty excited to bring it back,” Camilleri said.

“It has just been sitting there – I got busy doing a lot of GT racing and also some stuff overseas, so the Mazda kind of got put on the backburner for a while.

“This is something we have been trying to plan for the last few rounds and with Queensland Raceway being a local event it is a perfect opportunity to get the car out and see how it goes.

“Hopefully if all goes well we can do (future APC rounds) Sandown in September and Tailem Bend in November.”

The Mazda wont be the only piece of the puzzle to return with Camilleri as long time co-driver Scott Nicholas and a number of his previous sponsorship partners also reuniting for the event.

“Scott is who I have always raced with in most of my production car racing – we go way back all the way to running Saloon cars together growing up and it is great to have my old team mate back,” Camilleri added.

“We haven’t really done any racing together since 2015 other than one overseas race and we are both pretty excited to get back and do this together.

“We are also getting most of the team back together and are really pleased to have our long-time sponsors Grand Prix Mazda, Castrol and EnviroTech on board as well – they have always supported me right through everything I have done and it is good to have them back on board.

“It’s so great for us all to be coming back to do what we did for a long time, the whole team is really looking forward to it.”

The Australian Production Cars Series’ third round for 2019 takes place as part of the Shannons Nationals at Queensland Raceway on 2-4 August.
