Callum hedges his bets on Porsche pyramid

The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia will welcome series debutant Callum Hedge in 2021 with the New Zealander to contest the full six round season.

Joining fellow New Zealander Madeline Stewart under the ‘Team Porsche New Zealand’ banner, Hedge will begin his journey in the Porsche Motorsport pyramid with the full backing of Official Porsche Centres of New Zealand.

Hedge and Stewart have also confirmed their place representing the highly successful Earl Bamber Motorsport (EBM) for the one-make series, which features as one of the many exciting categories part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships beginning at Phillip Island next month.

“It’s an honour and a privilege for me to be representing the ‘Team Porsche New Zealand’ and EBM brands,” Hedge said.

“It’s going to be surreal to roll out at Phillip Island wearing colours I have watched since I started racing.”

The opportunity to race in the competitive series will also give Hedge eligibility to apply for both the Porsche Michelin Junior Programme and the 2022 EBM Scholarship, which provides young up and coming drivers a pathway to race in the esteemed Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia.

While racing at a high level will be a more than exciting prospect for Hedge, one of the major highlights of this year will be being mentored by Earl Bamber himself, who is already a big fan of the 17-year-old.

“Callum has already shown that he can compete with the best in Australia in the 2019 ‘Australian Formula Ford Championship’, he will be a strong competitor for the title this season,” Bamber said.

“There are going to be a number of challenges for Callum in the coming season, on and off the track, and were looking forward to seeing him grow as a driver.”

The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia holds its first round of the 2021 season at the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships during the Australian All Wheels Race Fest at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 19-21 February.
