Buchan joins growing GT4 series

Reigning Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series Champion Josh Buchan will do double duties in 2024 after the New South Welshman secured a seat in the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series.

Already committed to defending his TCR Australia title with HMO Customer Racing, Buchan will now race in the GT4 series, which begins at the Shannons SpeedSeries’ Race Phillip Island, alongside Jason Yu.

The duo will contest the full season in the Pro-Am class and behind the wheel of a brand-new McLaren Artura GT4 under the DNA Autosport banner.

Despite being relatively new to motorsport, DNA Autosport has enjoyed stints in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series, Toyota 86s and World Time Attack.

Buchan himself has an impressive record in motorsport, with last year’s epic title win in TCR his most decorated honour.

While doing double duties at Shannons SpeedSeries events will be a new experience for the 29-year-old, he was looking forward to joining in the ever-growing GT4 series alongside one of his good mates.

“It’s very exciting to join the brand-new GT4 category,” Buchan said.

“The field sounds like it is going to be very competitive. There are some amazing cars and drivers from the lists I’ve seen.

“GT4 cars are awesome. These cars are the halo cars of the brands, so it makes it really exciting to be involved from the start.

“I was at the shakedown for the car at Phillip Island recently. I probably only did half a dozen laps, but even in that short period it was intuitive to drive. It wasn’t intimidating and it was a dream straight away.

“You buy these cars, take them to the track and rip it straight away. It ran faultlessly in our shakedown and I expect it to do the same all year.

“Jason and I will be in the Pro-Am class. Jason and I have been friends for some time now, we’re going to have a great time doing this. It’s quite unique to be able to go racing with your mate, so I feel quite privileged to do that.

“I’ve been part of the process of getting the car too. We took delivery from Zagame in Melbourne, and they have been terrific. All the organisational stuff and the ease of taking delivery from Rod Wilson … It’s a team that knows motorsport. They made the whole experience exceptional and they’ve been a pleasure to deal with.”

The Monochrome GT4 Australia Series will begin its 2024 season at Race Phillip Island and will join the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, Trico Trans Am, Fanatec GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia and the Workhorse Radical Cup Australia at the Shannons SpeedSeries event.

The category will have two one-hour races over the course of its opening weekend, with Saturday’s race to wrap up the day’s proceedings before its second race runs on Sunday morning.

Both races will feature as part of the live and free 7plus broadcast.
