Benton unveils new look and future plans

Mick Benton has revealed a new-look Ford Falcon GT, which he will race this weekend in the fourth round of the Australian Production Car Series (APCS).

In previous years, Benton drove his Falcon alongside experienced racer Geoff Russell, however he will return to Queensland Raceway this weekend with a new-look GT and a new driver.

“We have given the car a freshen-up with the view of campaigning it in the revamped [Australian] Production Series,” Benton said.

“I will be driving it at Queensland Raceway with Tony Hatton [who is] a business associate of mine from Casino in New South Wales.

“Tony is an experienced campaigner, having partnered with Hadrian Morrall and myself previously in the 4 Hour race at Phillip Island and he and his son have run a very fast, V8-powered, BMW in the local Sports Sedans scene too.”

Despite his absence from the series, Benton has been busy competing in other national circuit categories.

“Since I was last seen in the APCS, I have been campaigning my MARC car in the [Australian] Sports Sedan Series, and also taking part in the Australian GT Trophy Series and the Bathurst 12 Hour,” Benton said.

“In the future, I plan to run both of my cars, the MARC car and the Ford Falcon GT, in the APCS.”

Benton and Hatton will be part of a 25-car field this weekend, as part of Round 6 of the 2017 Shannons Nationals on 4-6 August.
