Barbour to go around again in Trans Am

After a breakout season in 2023, Elliot Barbour has announced his return to the National Trans Am Series in 2024.

Once again running the Pioneer DJ backed Chevrolet Camaro, Barbour will be looking to build on his progress from last year, where he finished fifth overall.

With 2023 being his first full season in the popular series, Barbour picked up three podiums across the year with his strongest performances coming at both Queensland Raceway and Sandown Raceway.

Tickets for the season opener at Race Sandown can be purchased via motorsporttickets.com.au.

Despite only being in his second full season in the category, Barbour’s previous racing resume before landing in Trans Am makes him one of the more experienced drivers in the field for 2024 – especially with all the young talent coming through.

“We want to be competing for wins and be competitive everywhere we go, and put together a strong and consistent year,” Barbour said.

“Last year we had a few podiums and second places, so getting a win is one of the items we’re really looking to tick off in 2024.

“There was a heap of extremely fast, young drivers last year and hopefully there’s even more coming through again this season. It’s a great opportunity to prove themselves in a big rear wheel drive V8 and the experienced drivers act as a really competitive yardstick for the young drivers.

“I was actually working on Craig Dontas’ car when Trans Am came to Adelaide in 2020, so it’s exciting to be racing there later in the year. I see Adelaide as the best event on any motorsport calendar in Australia, it’s an amazing track with a good vibe and one the Trans Am cars are well suited to. I have only raced at The Bend once, in a Torana, so it will be a pretty different experience this time around.

“We’re going in with the same crew and car this year, and we were pretty strong from the halfway point in 2023. It was our first year running the team ourselves, but now we’ve got that under our belt, so really looking forward to getting going again.

“We are really excited for a big year, the team and I have fantastic support once again from Pioneer DJ, JANDS, Motion, Trade Risk and Verto. We look forward to putting on a show for our partners and fans.”

Tickets for Race Sandown are still available to purchase, with Trans Am to feature in the jam-packed 7plus broadcast, while select races will be shown free-to-air on the Seven Network.
