Australia’s first TCR Hyundai arrives

The first of two Hyundai i30 N TCR race cars has arrived in Australia ahead of the 2019 TCR Australia Series.

Flown directly from Germany, the car will get its first taste of action on Monday when it heads to Sydney Motorsport Park for TCR’s track debut in Australia.

Sydney-based HMO Customer Racing will run the Hyundais in the seven round series next year, which will race entirely on the Shannons Nationals calendar.

The Hyundai i30 N joins the Audi RS 3, Volkswagen Golf GTI and the Honda Civic for the invite-only test day.

HMO Customer Racing owner, Barry Morcom, said it was an exciting time for him team and the industry as a whole.

“HMO Customer Racing is very excited to be competing in the inaugural TCR Australia series,” Morcom said.

“We have great support from Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing, and we are pleased to have received our first i30 N into Australia. This car was airfreighted from Germany, and our second car will arrive soon via sea freight.

“We will announce our drivers in for 2019 in due course.”

Australian Racing Group, the promoters of TCR in Australia, were highly anticipating TCR’s upcoming track debut and inaugural season and the arrival of the first Hyundai was a landmark moment for the series.

“It is fantastic to see the arrival of our fourth different make of TCR car to Australia ahead of next year’s series,” ARG Director Matt Braid said.

“Hyundai is one of the world’s biggest car manufacturers, but in comparison to its rivals in the automotive world, it has a young history in motorsport.

“I’m not surprised at all, though, that they have enjoyed so much early success in TCR on a global front.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the HMO Customer Racing team on the grid next year.”
