A wonderful Winton weekend

The Shannons Nationals can confirm there have been some slight schedule tweaks made ahead of the Victorian round at Winton on 31 August – 1 September.

The carsales TCR Australia Series has confirmed it will condense its usual three day format into two, with a 50-minute practice session on Saturday morning, before a qualifying session later in the morning – followed by the usual one race in the afternoon and two back-to-back races on Sunday.

The S5000 demonstration laps will no longer take place, with the tight turnaround from the category’s Phillip Island driver and evaluation test next Wednesday meaning they will be unable to lap at Winton.

Shannons Nationals Director Michael Smith said fans could still witness plenty of action at the regional Victorian circuit.

“This round of the Shannons Nationals has always been planned as a two day event which provides fans and competitors with an exciting weekend of racing,” Smith said.

“For Winton, tickets will only be available at the gate and there will be plenty of racing on offer, including the very successful carsales TCR Australia Series, the Australian Prototype Series who will have four races across two days, and the Porsche 944 Challenge.

“We also understand the tight schedule the S5000 faces in preparation for its racing debut, with its upcoming test at Phillip Island meaning it unfortunately won’t be on show at Winton – however, we are very excited about the very first race at Sandown in a month’s time.”

The Porsche 944 Challenge and the Australian Prototype Series will also utilise Friday at Winton as a private practice day, which is not officially part of the Shannons calendar.

Tickets for Winton are available at the gate on both Saturday and Sunday.

The full Shannons Nationals schedule will be available shortly.
