Test day to appease S5000 interest increase

Garry Rogers Motorsport will be holding a special test and evaluation drive day later this month, with their five brand-new S5000 cars on hand for interested parties to test.

Taking part at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 28 August, the day will allow confirmed and potential teams and drivers the opportunity to get a feel for the cars ahead of the series debut in September.

Following a number of a public displays at various meetings including the Shannons Nationals at Queensland Raceway earlier this month and last year’s Coates Hire Newcastle 500, GRM owner Barry Rogers believed the test was necessary after the increase of interest in recent times.

“There’s been quite a bit of interest in S5000 after we took the car to Queensland Raceway last weekend,” Rogers said.

“To ensure that everyone gets a chance to, essentially, try before they buy, we have arranged a test day at Phillip Island.

“We will have five cars there and, in addition to the drivers that we have already committed to the day, you’ll get a considerable amount of laps to get a good understanding of the cars.

“The Island test comes with a fee, however, if the driver commits to Sandown, we will give them half of that test money back to go towards their lease drive, or car purchase.

“Really, we want to see the genuine guys who are on the edge of their seat and come out and see what it’s about.

“We firmly believe that the Sandown race meeting is going to be a historic day for Australian motor sport, with the return of high-powered open wheel race cars to our tracks. It’s a very exciting time for our industry.”

With the S5000 debut to take place at the Shannons Nationals’ visit to Sandown Raceway, GRM is fielding calls now regarding leaser or complete car purchases.

This month’s test day wont be the only chance interested drivers have to get behind the wheel with another test day to take place in September.

The S5000 will make its debut at Sandown Raceway on 20 – 22 September.
