Jaie Robson made the perfect start to his 2018 CAMS Australian GT Championship campaign after an emphatic display at the Formula 1 2018 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
Driving the Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the opening round of the season, the Sydney born driver led from start to finish in the fourth race on Sunday seeing off any challengers to win by a comfortable four seconds and top off a successful weekend.
The Championship enjoyed strong support from a big crowd at the Australian Grand Prix and the drivers provided some scintillating racing across all four days of the event.
Robson sits 21 points clear on the Championship table, while his nearest rival, Peter Hackett, sits second after a strong showing across the weekend.
Hackett praised his team’s efforts and ability to produce a competitive package for each of the four races.
“It’s a fantastic start to the season,” Hackett said.
“The car was finished on Wednesday night and first turned a wheel in qualifying one. We have just methodically moved forward over the weekend.”
Four drivers sit on 135 Championship points after the first round, with Hackett, Dominic Storey, Geoff Emery and Marcel Fassler all tied up.
Drivers will now turn their attention to the historic Shannons National event at The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia on 14-15 for the first Endurance round of the season.
