Hyundai X3 Series Queensland leader Richard Peasey believes the Shannons Nationals at Queensland Raceway will be his best opportunity to increase his lead in the series.
Racing in his debut season for the X3 Series, Peasey currently holds a 24-point lead over second placed Frank Mammarella after winning the second round in April.
The round win put Peasey in serious contention for the title after a self-proclaimed disappointing opening round saw him finish sixth due to a blown gear box.
While the car was strong during the second round, Peasey believes that his car is now in better shape ahead of the Queensland Raceway meeting at the end of July.
“In the second round, the car was on fire,” Peasey said.
“We qualified in pole position and managed to pick up four race wins out of four race starts. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.
“Even though there are hard guys to compete against, we will be trying our very best in Queensland and we our car to a point where it is really well set up.”
With the car looking stronger, Peasey’s wealth of experience at the Ipswich circuit will put him in good stead to add to his already sensational first year.
“I have a heap of experience at Queensland Raceway,” Peasey added.
“I was actually part of one of the first ever race meetings held there when I was a young lad racing open wheelers.
“I also hold the lap record in an Excel so we are looking for a strong result there and then see where that leads us for the remainder of the season.”
Despite it being only Peasey’s first season, the desire is strong to make his mark in the category especially with the next round being on the national stage, making it the perfect opportunity to showcase his skills as well as promote the series.
“It’s awesome to race with some of those other categories that are out in the motor sport world,” Peasey explained.
“To have the coverage that the Nationals brings is fantastic, especially as it showcases the sport and what our series can do. It’s a great stepping-stone.
“We have a lot of competition there so giving it everything that we have got and because it’s a national event, there are a few quick guys coming from down south.
“I think we will be going there with goal in mind and that is to win it.”
The Hyundai X3 Series Queensland is one of five categories to take place across the two days with a qualifying on day one setting up three 20-minute races.
The Shannons Nationals takes places at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich on 27-29 July, with live coverage of Sunday’s session once again to be available for viewing via speedseries.com.au.
