What the drivers have to say about Winton

Six national categories make their way to the Winton Raceway next weekend for Hi-Tec Oils Race Winton as part of the fourth round of the Shannons SpeedSeries bill.

The circuit has provided many of the SpeedSeries drivers with the opportunity to not only race there, but use the track as a testing and practice facility due to the accessibility of it during non-events.

The tight, technical circuit will challenge some categories more than others, but will allow for a brilliant weekend of on-track action for drivers and spectators alike.

Find out what some of the drivers have had to say about the Winton Raceway.

John Bowe – Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters

“I love Winton as a track, it’s a bit frightening to say I first raced there in 1979 and I’ve raced there every year since then. I’ve had a lot of good memories and a couple of bad ones.

“I love the track and I love the people and officials because they are all very pleasant. Also, the country folk who come in numbers are really enthusiastic, which is great.

“I could drive around Winton in my sleep, I can’t wait.

Joey Mawson – S5000 Australian Drivers Championship

“There are no long straights, no fast corners and qualifying is going to be very important as overtaking is going to be tough.

“I have only driven at Winton when I have done trials in new cars, so I have never actually raced there properly but I am looking forward to it.

Lochie Dalton – National Trans Am Series

“I like it a lot, we have spent a lot of time there testing because it’s such easy access there, it’s pretty cool.

“I’ve only tested there in the past, it’s exciting to finally race there and it will be interesting to see it all come together.

“it’s short and technical and I think there will be some great racing.

Aaron Cameron – Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series and S5000 Australian Drivers Championship

“Winton is the test track for the majority of teams, especially in Victoria so I know everyone has done a lot of laps there and will have the experience.

“Its a really fun place to put a lap together, I think racing could be pretty close and entertaining to see the passing get done.

“There is a reason why everyone loves Winton and likes to go testing there, not just that it’s a great, reliable test track but the people there are nice and good to deal with as well.

Zak Lobko – Australian Formula Ford Series

“It was also very close racing last time we were there, so I expect it to be quite similar.

“I have had three races in Winton in my two-year career, it’s one of the tracks I’ve raced on the most – whether it’s testing or racing cause it’s a very accessible track.

“I’m quite confident as every time we have been there, we have had quite a lot of pace, so I’m looking forward to getting out there.

Jordan Caruso – Precision National Sports Sedan Series

“I have quite a lot of experience at Winton, I raced there a bunch when I did Excels for three years and I have done a few test days in the Audi.

“It’s a track that suits my driving style; It’s tight and technical, in Excels I had a few wins there, the lap record and the Sports Sedans win when we raced there last as well.
