The popular Trico Trans Am Series will add some V8 grunt to the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sandown International Raceway later this month.
Due to the cancellation of one of its events, the Shannons SpeedSeries will welcome Trans Am to its bill for the July event, joining GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Monochrome GT4 Australia, First Focus Radical Australia and the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars at the famed suburban Melbourne track.
Trans Am will replace the new open wheel category AU3 who are continuing to work on its relaunch.
The series is regarded as one of Australian motorsport’s most popular racing categories, featuring V8-powered Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros and Dodge Challengers.
The field will see some of the best names in the sport too, with the likes of series leader and former Bathurst 1000 champion Todd Hazelwood competing against Supercars and national racing stars James Moffat, James Golding, Ben Grice, Nash Morris, Ben Bargwanna and Nathan Herne.
The Trico Trans Am class is no stranger to the Shannons SpeedSeries, having laid its foundations under the event’s old guise in recent years.
The series will feature throughout the whole event, with three races to be split over Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday and Sunday’s track action will be broadcast live and free on 7plus and 7mate (Australia), while international viewers can watch GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS and Monochrome GT4 Australia qualifying and races via GT World’s YouTube channel.

QUOTES
Ben McMellan
CEO, SRO Motorsports Australia
“It’s great to welcome the Trans Ams back to the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sandown for our July event,” said McMellan.
“It was unfortunate that AU3 has not been able to attend. We are looking forward to working with them in the future, but when Trans Am gave us a call, it was a very obvious decision. For us, it was a win-win for both parties.
“Trans Am will complement the other Shannons SpeedSeries categories really well. They will enjoy a lot of track time and Sandown is suited perfectly to their style of cars and racing.”
Liam Curkpatrick
Category manager, Trans Am
“We’re really pleased to join the Shannons SpeedSeries at Sandown next month,” said Curkpatrick.
“We feel that Trans Am will be a great fit at the event, with a big field and great names competing.
“Trans Am started its competition in Australia with the Shannons SpeedSeries. We always had a great working relationship with the group and we’re looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans – both at the track and on the Seven Network’s broadcast.”
