Sydney Shannons SpeedSeries round breaks attendance record

The Shannons SpeedSeries event at Sydney Motorsport Park has made history, officially breaking the record for the most-attended SpeedSeries event in its 20 year history.

Under hot and humid Sydney skies, a total of 20,173 race fans descended on the western Sydney venue over the three days.

It is the first time that a round of the Shannons SpeedSeries has achieved an attendance over 20,000.

SRO Motorsports Australia, the event organisers for SpeedSeries, also reported record corporate attendance, with its luxurious hospitality options sold out across both Saturday and Sunday.

The three day Shannons SpeedSeries event – the LIQUI MOLY GT Festival Sydney – featured six of the best GT and sportscar-style Australian motor racing categories, with over 100 race cars thrilling the crowds with close and competitive racing.

Beyond the on-track action, fans were entertained with various activations, including the presence of the Shannons SuperRig 2.0, Wade Motorsport and Trak Racer, who gave away a racing simulator to the fan that set the fastest time on one of its state-of-the-art simulators.

The event was broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports for Australian viewers, while international viewers could tune in via YouTube for various categories.

The Shannons SpeedSeries has run every year since 2006 and has been administered by four different promoters. SRO Motorsports Australia took the reins of the iconic Australian motorsport platform in 2024, seeing sharp growth in both attendees, corporate guests and commercial partners.

Yesterday, SRO Motorsports Australia confirmed that naming rights partner Shannons will remain as the event’s presenting partner for 2027.

The final round of the Shannons SpeedSeries for 2026 will be held at Sandown Raceway on October 30-November 1.

“This is a fantastic result to see so many faces at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend,” said McMellan.

“Since SRO took over the administration and promotions of the Shannons SpeedSeries, we have always taken a fans-first approach – whether that’s with the on-track racing entertainment that we provide, or the fan-friendly activations off track.

“Every time we roll out one of our events, we feel we are making strides forward, and the interest and attendance is a testament to that.

“We’re really looking forward to our final round of 2026 at Sandown Raceway in Melbourne, an historic venue where we’ll crown our 2026 Monochrome GT4 Australia Series champions.”
