Spectacular action under lights closes Shannons SpeedSeries Saturday in Sydney

Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park at the Shannons SpeedSeries provided plenty of action across 12 hours and five categories as many raced into the night.

Grid walks, close contests and lap records made up the second day of action at Sydney Motorsport Park concluded by the spectacular setting of racing under lights.

GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS

On paper it appears the Arise Racing GT Ferrari 296 GT3 of Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte won the opening one-hour encounter easily, but came after fending off multiple challenges during the opening laps of the race.

Category debutant Thomas Randle combined with Marcel Zalloua to guide the Geyer Valmont Racing/Tigani Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo to second ahead of the Realta example driven by Jayden Ojeda and Paul Lucchitti.

Contact at the start of the race led to the Volante Rosso Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3 of Declan Fraser and Liam Talbot to spin, while damage later in the opening stint forced the Dayle ITM Team MPC Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of Brendon Leitch and Tim Miles to pit early.

Am Class was dominated by Renee Gracie in the OnlyFans Team MPC Audi.

Race 2 will include a grid walk prior and is set to commence at 2:10pm AEST.

Monochrome GT4 Australia

It was a successful opening race for reigning Silver Cup title winner Tom Hayman and co-driver Max Geoghegan as the duo took victory in the Method Motorsport McLaren Artura GT4.

The McLaren led a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT4s as JGI Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Jarrod Hughes and Summer Rintoul scored their first podium, while a late charge elevated Jake Camilleri to third for Gomersall Motorsport.

Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell took their first Silver-Am victory of the season driving the DA Campbell Transport Ford Mustang GT4, while Glenn Nirwan guided the Tufflift Racing TSM McLaren to second after a rapid opening stint by Zac Soutar set-up a maiden podium appearance. Ryder Quinn and Steve Jakic completed the lead results in the Thunder Buddies Racing/TekworkX Motorsport BMW M4 GT4 G82.

Shane Smollen dominated Am Cup in his return to the category piloting the Method Motorsport Porsche 718 GT4 RS CS. The sister Porsche of Chris Lillis and Nathan Callaghan took second ahead of Glenn Walker in the Gomersall Racing BMW M4 GT4 F82.

The final race of the weekend is scheduled for 10:50pm AEST.

Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia

Antoine Gittany dominated the opening race under lights at Sydney to continue his run to the Trofeo Pirelli class.

Gittany won the opening race from pole, which was matched by Coppa Shell winner Enzo Cheng as he finished second on the road to secure the class win.

Jim Pollicina and Cameron Campbell rounded out the podium in Trofeo Pirelli, while Japanese driver Norikazu Shibata was second in Coppa Shell from David Trewern.

Trofeo Pirelli 488 was won by Michel Stephan from Baby Kei and Hiroyuki Katayama.

Qualifying 2 is to start at 9:55am AEST.

Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge

Tom Bewley and Lachlan Bloxsom have done their title aspirations no harm by sharing the race wins in Sydney as series leader Willie Exton encountered trouble.

Six different teams were represented in as many positions at the end of the opening race as Bewley led Bloxsom and James Lodge, who scored his best result of the season. Tyler Greenbury and Jake Santalucia were also in close quarters to the lead trio.

Bloxsom took victory in the second race under lights from Lodge and Kamal Mrad after he took advantage of a collision involving many frontrunners at Turn 2. Jake Santalucia, Hunter Robb and Jackson Rooney were all involved, but the latter two retired on the spot.

Daniel Quimby won Class B for previous generation Cup Cars in both races, with Jacque Jarjo doing likewise in Class A.

The final event of the weekend is the Jim Richards Endurance Championship race of 45-minutes duration at 12:10pm AEST.

Focus First Radical Cup Australia

It was Cooper Cutts winning both races in his Arise Racing Radical SR3 XXR as he renewed his rivalry with Peter Paddon, who walked away with two seconds on home turf in his GWR Australia entry.

Ruairidh Avern took third in the first race, but Bryce Moore replaced him on the podium in the second.

Brad Russell scored both Am Class victories in his Radical SR3 XXR.

One more race is to come at 1:15pm AEST.

If not attending Sydney Motorsport Park, fans can watch the action on 7plus starting at 9:00am AEST and 7mate at 2:00pm AEST.
