Soutar continues podium form in TCR

Zac Soutar continued his return to form in 2023 after yet another podium finish at Queensland Raceway in the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series.

A somewhat disappointing start to the season took its turn at round three at Winton Motor Raceway, where the Victorian picked up his first two podiums of the year.

The Tufflift Racing driver would then continue his run of good results after another podium in race one last weekend at Queensland Raceway, working his way through from seventh on the grid to finish third behind Will Brown and Tony D’Alberto.

Unfortunately, the second race of the weekend didn’t go Soutar’s way after a gamble to run on older tyres didn’t pay off, finishing outside the top 10 as a result.

Race three showed a lot more promise for the 26-year-old after a brilliant start on a set of brand-new green tyres, however he was forced to retire due to a driveshaft issue in the car.

Despite the DNF, Soutar was still pleased to come away with another podium.

“It’s been a very mixed weekend here at Queensland Raceway,” Soutar said post-event.

“To grab a podium after a difficult qualifying on Saturday during Race 1 was fantastic. I was pretty confident that we could have another crack at a podium place finish on Sunday, but unfortunately it just wasn’t meant to be in the end.

“We’ll regroup and come out swinging at Sandown in a few weeks’ time.”

Soutar and the Soutar Motorsport Team will now turn their focus to the fifth round of the 2023 season at their home circuit, Sandown International Raceway on 8-10 September.
