In contrast to Saturday’s weather, the final day of Shannons SpeedSeries action from Phillip Island was picture perfect as a big crowd attended the best sportscar brands and marques battle on track.
GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS
Race 2 at Phillip Island was just as dramatic as the first after another Turn 1 incident involving the Wolfbrook Motorsport Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II of Ryan Wood and Brendon Leitch driving the Geyer Valmont by Tigani Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
Wood was able to recover through the gravel trap, while Josh Hunt was spun at Turn 2 in the Volante Rosso Motorsport McLaren 720s GT3 and was able to return to the track.
In the end, Jayden Ojeda and Paul Lucchitti in the Move My Wheels by Tigani Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo took the win from the Arise Racing GT Ferrari 296 GT3 shared by Jaxon Evans and Elliott Schutte.
Broc Feeney and Brad Schumacher took third in the Kelso Electrical MPC Audi in what was a lucky result.
An incident between Leitch’s co-driver Sergio Perez and Team BRM Castrol’s Mark Rosser at Turn 4 forced the former to retire, which elevated Brown/Schumacher.
Trophy Class was won by Volante Rosso Motorsport’s Alex Gardner and Lee Stibbs in the Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3.
Monochrome GT4 Australia
It was an interesting Monochrome GT4 Australia encounter due to a number of penalties being handed out after pit stop infractions.
In the end Silver Cup was decided in favour of defending class champion Tom Hayman and Jett Murray driving for Method Motorsport’s McLaren Artura GT4.
The McLaren duo headed Miedecke Motorsport pairing Blake Tracey and George Miedecke in the lead Ford Mustang GT4, while Jensen Shearer rounded out the podium in the Aperatif Racing Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS.
Cameron Crick and Dean Campbell steering the Method Motorsport-prepared Ford Mustang GT4 to victory in Silver-Am ahead of the CAM Quarries Concrete Racing Toyota Supra Evo 2 of Lachlan Evennett and Andrew Torti.
Ryder Quinn and Dan Jilesen were third in the Thunder Buddies/Black Diamond BMW M4 GT4 G82.
After setting the pace in qualifying, Glenn Walker finally captured victory in his Gomersall Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4. It was redemption for Walker after spinning out yesterday.
Randall Racing’s Peter Lawrence steered his BMW to second ahead of Bailey Love in the Love Racing by TSM Mercedes-AMG GT4.
Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia
Cam McLeod took a dominating victory to win the Ambrose Cup honours in Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia.
McLeod fended off an early challenge from pole sitter Aaron Cameron to take a comfortable win.
Behind McLeod and Cameron, Tyler Everingham completed his return weekend to racing by finishing third.
Keith Kassulke won Dark Horse Legends and Joe Fawcett took victory in Dark Horse Junior.
Porsche Michelin Sprint Australia
Hunter Robb and Kobi Williams took the pair of wins on offer on Sunday for Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia.
Robb completed a clinical performance in the opener to defeat Lincoln Taylor and Kamal Mrad.
Anthony Gilbertson won the Pro-Am Class.
Saving the best for last, Williams took advantage of a puncture for Daniel Quimby to take his maiden win on his maiden weekend in the category.
Williams fended off fellow debutant Xavier Avramides and Mrad.
Gilbertson again took Pro-Am.
Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia
It was a spectacular end to the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia weekend when Rick Armstrong, Antoine Gittany and Enzo Cheng collided as the safety car entered the circuit on lap 2.
All drivers were ok, but there was a lot of damage to clear up.
In the end, Jim Pollicina won Trofeo Pirelli, Coppa Shell was secured by Masahiro Taguchi and Trofeo Pirelli 488 was dominated by Ross Tomain.
The next round of the Shannons SpeedSeries is at The Bend on May 8-10, with GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS, Monochrome GT4 Australia, Motorcraft Mustang Cup Australia, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia and Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli Australasia forming the program.
