Former Supercars commentator and Network Ten F1 host Greg Rust will head up this year’s Shannons Nationals coverage, with fans able to enjoy action from the six rounds on their favourite devices and TVs in 2018.
The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) has today confirmed details of the Shannons Nationals broadcast, with a new-look live stream on the Sunday of each event hosted by experienced broadcaster, Rust.
Once again the Nationals will provide access to some of the best racing on free-to-air and subscription television, with SBS and Fox Sports to again air the popular Speedweek program.
In 2018, AVE will work with CAMS to provide an improved live stream product which will be broadcast on the Sunday of each event and available on speedseries.com.au and social media.
CAMS CEO Eugene Arocca said motor sport fans had plenty to look forward to in 2018, including Rust’s addition to the broadcast.
“All motor sport fans will have seen the great work of ’Rusty’ throughout the years at various motor sport events and we can’t wait to work with him on the Shannons Nationals,” Arocca said.
“Shannons Nationals plays host to a large number of categories and in 2018, our coverage of these events will allow fans to get up close and experience the action live on Sundays as well as to recap all the highlights through Speedweek on SBS and Fox Sports.
“The Shannons will start with a bang at The Bend Motorsport Park. It will be the first ever motor sport event at this amazing venue, so we know there will be lots of interest in seeing the various categories race at The Bend.”
Rust said he was excited about his newest challenge.
“Over time I’ve covered a wide range of categories in Australia so this just about completes the box set,” Rust said.
“I’m passionate about motor sport at all levels and the Shannons Nationals covers such a wide range…it’s the perfect mix.
“From the CAMS Australian GT Championship to the Australian Production Cars and every other category we’ll see race on the calendar this season, I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in and sharing the insights from the track to those fans who are watching on at home.”
Rust’s involvement in the series will be something of a focal point in a busy 2018, which will see him broadcasting in Asia, Australia and across the Tasman in New Zealand.
Rust recently returned to the coverage of the CAMS Australian Rally Championship at the opening round in Ballarat, worked with the GPTV team at Albert Park and looks set to be at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix in September as well.
“The Shannons on-air team they’ve assembled is terrific. I’ll be working with some very experienced commentators and producers who I really respect,” Rust added.
“They love the sport as much as I do and they go about broadcasting the same way I do. It’s about the constituents, the teams, the cars, the drivers and ensuring we answer the questions the fans are thinking about as they watch.
“I also reckon its perfect for viewers of all ages no matter how they digest their motor sport. If you want to watch the live stream we’ll endeavour to interact with you along the way and have plenty of fun too.”
Today’s news comes on the back of CAMS’ recent announcement regarding free-to-air coverage of both the CAMS Australian Rally Championship and BFGoodrich CAMS Australian Off Road Championship.
“It’s exciting to see the interest in motor sport on the rise and we know that as the technology improves, coverage of the various championships will only get better in the years ahead. We’re excited to be playing a large part in that,” Arocca added.
There will be six Shannons Nationals rounds in 2018, with visits to The Bend Motorsport Park, Sandown, Phillip Island, Queensland Raceway, Winton and Sydney Motorsport Park.
Categories racing at the opening round at The Bend will include: CAMS Australian Endurance Championship, Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge Australia, Australian Sports Sedans Series, Australian Prototype Series, Radical Australia Cup, Heritage Touring Cars and Group S Racing.
